Hostels and cheap stays in Villa La Angostura: where to sleep, how to get there and what to do

Getting around Villa La Angostura
The centre (El Cruce) is walkable: the bus station, the information offices, the bank and the supermarkets are all less than 0.6 km from each other.
Outside the centre distances are 2 to 7 km and you need a bike, a car or the city bus, which runs all year to Lago Correntoso, Puerto de la Villa and Puerto Manzano, in summer to Lago Espejo and in winter to Cerro Bayo.
Bikes can be rented in town: roughly ≈ US$ 19 for a full day and ≈ US$ 10 for a half day, with helmet and lock. Hostel La Angostura also rents bicycles.
On the trail to the Arrayanes Forest, the first 2 km are done pushing your bike by hand and a helmet is mandatory.
To buy food there are «Todo» supermarkets at Av. Arrayanes 251 and at Av. Siete Lagos 731.
The accommodation in the west and north is 15-25 minutes on foot from the centre; Alehue is ≈ 4.5 km away, and its guests recommend going with your own vehicle.
The 3 best areas to stay in Villa La Angostura
1Centre: El Cruce To get around without a car
🚌 0.37 to 0.5 km from the bus station
Hostel La Angostura and La Roca de la Patagonia are here. The bus station, tourist information, bank and supermarkets are a few blocks away, and the buses to Bariloche leave from here. Puerto de la Villa, where you board for the Arrayanes, is 3 km away, and the trail to the Belvedere is 3.2 km away. Cons: there's no lake view, and reviews of another accommodation in El Cruce mention night noise from the clubs and the avenues.
2West and north: Av. Siete Lagos, Quetrihué and Bandurrias Quiet and with a garden
🚌 ≈ 1.1 to 4.5 km from the bus station
Paso Puyehue, Pichi Rincón and Dodo House are in residential neighbourhoods with a park or garden, between 1.1 and 1.75 km from the bus station. Alehue is further north, in Bandurrias, ≈ 4.5 km away and about 10 minutes by car from the centre. They're good for sleeping in silence. Cons: with a backpack, the bus station is 15-25 minutes on foot and there are fewer restaurants nearby.
3On the lake: La Villa and Bahía Mansa To see the lake
🚌 ≈ 2.4 km from the bus station
Hotel Angostura faces Bahía Mansa, with its own pier and beach, and is ≈ 0.5 km from the Bahía Brava pier, where the catamarans to the Arrayanes Forest leave. Puerto de la Villa has a city bus all year. Cons: it's the area furthest from the centre and the bus station, so you depend on the city bus, a bike or a car to get around.

Backpacker tips for Villa La Angostura
1Register before you hike
Trekking registration is mandatory and free: you do it at the information office or at nahuelhuapi.gov.ar before heading out on the trails.
2Buy the return catamaran ticket first
If you walk to the Arrayanes Forest, buy the return catamaran ticket before you start walking: that way you don't depend on walking back the 11 km.
3Check the forest's hours
From 1 November to Holy Week you enter on foot until 2 PM and leave by 6 PM; from Holy Week to 31 October, entry on foot is until 11 AM and you can stay until 3 PM. By bike, the latest entry is 12 noon in winter and 3 PM in summer.
4Cook at the hostel
Only Hostel La Angostura has a shared kitchen; Hostería Pichi Rincón offers shared grills and the Hotel Angostura bungalows have a kitchen. The «Todo» supermarkets are at Av. Arrayanes 251 and Av. Siete Lagos 731.
5Always bring a raincoat
Villa La Angostura is one of the wettest places in the country: June averages 362 mm of rain and July 250 mm, and even in January about 64 mm falls.
6Bring pesos with you
It's best to arrive with pesos in your pocket, for example withdrawn in Bariloche. In town there's a branch of the Banco Provincia del Neuquén at Av. Nahuel Huapi 70, ≈ 150 m from the bus station.
7Crossing into Chile: check the schedule
The Cardenal Samoré pass changes its hours: check them on the day you travel. Bring a valid DNI or passport; minors, with both parents or with notarised authorisation. The buses wait at customs and the time to Osorno varies between 2 h 16 and 3 h 35.
8Route 40 in winter
In 2026 the RN 40 Seven Lakes road had closures because of snowfall and weather alerts, and required chains. Don't travel at night and check with Vialidad Nacional the same day.
