Hostels in Córdoba and Capilla del Monte: where to stay, how to get there and what to do
Córdoba is Argentina's second city and one of its most student-filled: a colonial centre with the Jesuit Block, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, nightlife in Güemes and Nueva Córdoba, cuarteto music and fernet. For backpackers it works as a hub: the bus station connects with almost the whole country and the hills (sierras) are one to three hours away by bus. The most mystical spot is Capilla del Monte, at the foot of Cerro Uritorco, with hiking trails, UFO legends and a laid-back feel.

Getting around Córdoba and Capilla del Monte
In Córdoba city you pay for the bus with SUBE (the same card as in Buenos Aires) or by tapping a contactless Visa or Mastercard debit or credit card, or an NFC phone. The old Red Bus card stopped working on 31/12/2025.
A city fare costs ≈ US$ 1.40. You can get a SUBE card at the Palacio 6 de Julio and at stands in T1 and T2 of the bus station.
To check routes, the city council recommends the «TU BONDI» app.
The centre, Güemes and Nueva Córdoba are right next to each other: from Plaza San Martín, Paseo del Buen Pastor is ≈ 1 km away and Paseo de las Artes ≈ 1.2 km. The city publishes 10 free Biciturismo cycling routes with maps on Wikiloc.
At night, the city council recommends sticking to main, well-lit streets and not taking your phone out unnecessarily; in a taxi or remís, check that the meter starts with the trip. Emergencies: Police 911, medical emergency 107.
Capilla del Monte is walkable and there are remises to get to the base of the Uritorco or the outskirts.
Uber, Cabify, DiDi and taxis in Córdoba and Capilla del Monte
In the city of Córdoba, Uber, Cabify and DiDi work, regulated by the Municipality since November 2025. Uber reports an average of ≈ US$ 7 between the centre and the airport. In Capilla del Monte there are no confirmed apps: remís or taxi.
Uber Available
The most widely used in the country: Buenos Aires, Córdoba, Mendoza, Salta and Bariloche. It takes card, cash and Mercado Pago, and the same account you use at home works here.
Strong in Buenos Aires; also in Córdoba, Mendoza and Bariloche. Cash only in Buenos Aires, Rosario, Mendoza and Córdoba; to create an account it asks for a phone number and email address.
Status of each app according to their official sites and the local press; it may change. The buttons open the official stores (Google Play for Android, App Store for iPhone).
The 3 best areas to stay in Córdoba and Capilla del Monte
1Historic centre (Córdoba) For arriving by bus and walking the old town
🚌 ≈ 0.9 to 2.6 km from the bus station
The area with the most cheap beds and the most practical if you arrive by bus: 531 and Alvear are less than 1 km from the bus station and steps from Plaza San Martín, and you can explore the Jesuit Block on foot. Aldea is next to La Cañada and Faz, further north, in Alta Córdoba. Cons: street noise in front-facing rooms, lively weekends and a shopping district that empties out at night.
2Nueva Córdoba and Güemes (Córdoba) For going out at night
🚌 ≈ 0.75 to 1.7 km from the bus station
Nueva Córdoba is the UNC university students' neighbourhood, with tall buildings, Paseo del Buen Pastor and Parque Sarmiento. Güemes adds more than 100 bars across eight blocks and the Paseo de las Artes market at weekends. Lacandona is the hostel closest to the bus station. Cons: weekend noise, nightclubs nearby and less peace for sleeping than in the centre.
3Central Capilla del Monte For the Uritorco and the hills
🚌 ≈ 0.5 to 0.9 km from Capilla bus station
For hills, trekking and some calm after the city. Falucho and Hunab Ku are 0.5 and 0.9 km from the bus station, near the Calle Techada (covered street), and the base of the Uritorco and Paso del Indio are about 3 km away. Cons: there are few hostels, several take cash only, nights outside summer are cold and there's little nightlife. For Los Terrones you need transport.
The 8 recommended hostels in Córdoba and Capilla del Monte
Eight hostels with good ratings and plenty of reviews: six in Córdoba city (centre, Alta Córdoba, Güemes and Nueva Córdoba) and two in central Capilla del Monte. Distances to the bus station are as the crow flies: on foot, the route is a bit longer.

10The clean bathrooms
The cleanliness of the bathrooms, spotless; honestly really remarkable, since that's usually the weakest aspect of hostels. Clean, modern furniture. The fact that the terrace is only open until midnight means you can rest peacefully. The value for money is excellent.

Backpacker tips for Córdoba and Capilla del Monte
1Bring cash
Güemes Hostel and Hunab Ku take cash only, and some reviews report surcharges for paying by card. Confirm the final price before paying.
2SUBE, not Red Bus
You pay for the bus with SUBE or a contactless card; the Red Bus card was discontinued on 31/12/2025. You can get a SUBE at T1 or T2 of the bus station.
3Uritorco: start early
Entry is from 7:00 to 11:00 and you must start heading down at 14:30. Bring 2 litres of water and hiking shoes.
4Lace-up trainers at Los Terrones
They're mandatory for the long guided 2 h 30 circuit, whose last departure is at 15:30. The park has its own shuttle from Capilla at 9:30 and 14:30, with advance reservation.
5Use the free tourist offices
At the Cabildo (Independencia 30), every day from 8:00 to 20:00, and in Güemes (Bv. San Juan 225), from 10:00 to 18:00. They also answer on WhatsApp from 8:00 to 20:00.
6In summer, hike early
From November to March Córdoba gets 116-146 mm of rain a month, with afternoon storms: head out walking first thing.
7Earplugs
Several reviews mention noise in the central hostels, especially at weekends.
8Reserve Capilla in advance
There are few hostels in Capilla del Monte: in high season it's best to reserve ahead. Outside summer, ask about heating before you reserve.

Weather and seasons in Córdoba and Capilla del Monte
January and February are high season in the hills: the villages fill up and Capilla has few hostels, so it's worth reserving ahead; it's also the rainiest time. March-April and September-November bring good walking weather, and from May to August it's dry, with mild days and cold nights, ideal for the city.

How do I get from Córdoba airport to my hostel cheaply?
The Aerobus links the airport with the bus station (T2) about every 30 minutes and takes 40-50 minutes. From the bus station, hostels in the centre and Nueva Córdoba are less than 2 km away. The Red Bus card that used to be needed no longer exists: ask about the fare and payment method when you arrive. By taxi or remís it's 18-25 minutes.
Which card do I need for the bus in Córdoba?
The SUBE, the same card as in Buenos Aires, which has worked in Córdoba since May 2025. You can also pay by tapping a contactless Visa or Mastercard debit or credit card, or an NFC phone. The Red Bus card went out of service on 31/12/2025. A city fare costs ≈ US$ 1.40 and you can get a SUBE at the bus station.
Is it better to stay in the centre, Nueva Córdoba or Güemes?
If you arrive by bus and are staying a few days, the centre puts everything within walking distance: the bus station less than 1 km away and the Jesuit Block round the corner. If you're here to go out, Nueva Córdoba and Güemes have the bars, and Güemes also has the weekend market. In all three areas reviews warn about weekend noise.
How do I get to Capilla del Monte and how long does it take?
About 29 buses a day run by Empresa Sarmiento and Diferencial Lumasa leave from Córdoba bus station. They take between 2 h 07 and 3 h 05 depending on the service and tickets cost from ≈ US$ 13. It's about 101 km by road. In Capilla, the bus station is right in the centre and the hostels are between 300 m and 1 km away.
Can I climb the Uritorco without a guide, and how much does it cost?
Yes: by day you can climb on your own by signing a waiver at the base, about 3 km from the centre. Entry is from 7:00 to 11:00 and you have to start heading down at 14:30. It's about 4 h up and 3 down. Entry costs ≈ US$ 23 in cash or ≈ US$ 26 by card. For sunrise or sunset at the top you need a guide.
When is the best time to visit Córdoba and the hills?
For hiking in the hills, April-May and September-October: less heat and little rain (24-72 mm a month in Córdoba). Winter is dry (6-8 mm a month) but with lows of 4-5 °C. In summer highs reach 29-30 °C and there's 116-146 mm of rain a month, with afternoon storms. In January and February the hills get crowded.
