Hostels in Puerto Iguazú: where to stay, how to get there and what to do
Puerto Iguazú is the Argentine base for visiting Iguazú Falls: the National Park entrance is 17 km away and a bus leaves the bus station every half hour. For backpackers it's an essential stop in the northeast, with direct buses to Buenos Aires, Posadas and Corrientes and lots of hostels with a pool, a real blessing in the humid jungle heat. From here you can also cross over for the day to the Brazilian side of the falls.

Getting around Puerto Iguazú
The Río Uruguay bus to the Falls leaves the bus station every 30 minutes, from 7:00 to 16:00, takes about 20 minutes and costs ≈ US$ 6.50 each way (≈ US$ 13 return). The last bus back from the park is at 17:00.
You don't need a SUBE card for that bus: tickets are sold at windows 19 and 35 of the bus station, on board or online. The route starts at the Hito Tres Fronteras and runs along Av. Tres Fronteras, past the bus station and along Av. Victoria Aguirre.
The town's city buses use their own Tarjeta Monedero card, not SUBE.
The centre, the bus station and the Hito Tres Fronteras are walkable (from the Hito to the bus station it's about 2.5 km). The National Park, 17 km away, is not within walking distance.
There are taxis at the bus station and taxi and remís desks at the airport. The Host rents bikes to its guests.
Uber, Cabify, DiDi and taxis in Puerto Iguazú
Cabify and DiDi don't operate. There are Uber drivers, but without a by-law authorising them and with conflicts with taxi drivers: treat it as plan B; for the airport and the Falls, bus, shuttle or taxi.
Uber Partly available
The most widely used in the country: Buenos Aires, Córdoba, Mendoza, Salta and Bariloche. It takes card, cash and Mercado Pago, and the same account you use at home works here.
Strong in Buenos Aires; also in Córdoba, Mendoza and Bariloche. Cash only in Buenos Aires, Rosario, Mendoza and Córdoba; to create an account it asks for a phone number and email address.
DiDi Not available
Works in Buenos Aires, Córdoba, Salta, Bariloche and other cities (not in Mendoza). You pay by card or in cash.
Status of each app according to their official sites and the local press; it may change. The buttons open the official stores (Google Play for Android, App Store for iPhone).
The 3 best areas to stay in Puerto Iguazú
1Around the bus station (Av. Córdoba, Guaraní, Av. Misiones) For getting around by bus
🚌 0.3 to 0.4 km from the bus station
Suits those arriving at night by bus, staying just a few nights or wanting to head to the Falls early: the bus to the park leaves from the same station and logistics are minimal. There are supermarkets, bars and restaurants steps away, and Plaza San Martín is about a 15-minute walk. Cons: it's a transit area, busier than the rest of town.
2West of the centre, towards the Hito (Jangadero and 1 de Mayo) Hostel vibe
🚌 1.2 to 2.3 km from the bus station
For those looking for a more social or quieter hostel who don't mind walking. The Host is 16 minutes on foot from the bus station; Bungalow and Lost & Found almost half an hour, but only 11 to 14 minutes from the Hito Tres Fronteras, where the bus to the Falls also stops. Cons: several guests say it's far from the centre, and with your backpack on the walk feels long.
3Route 12, jungle area (km 5) Jungle and pool
🚌 ≈ 3.8 km from the bus station
The option for those who prefer nature, a big pool and craft beer and don't mind relying on transport. It's on Route 12, right in the jungle area, near Güirá Oga and La Aripuca and about 13.5 km from the Falls entrance. Cons: it's far from the nightlife and the supermarkets in the centre, and prices at its own restaurant add up.

Backpacker tips for Puerto Iguazú
1Ticket online or pesos at hand
National Park entry is paid in pesos, in cash or by Visa and Mastercard debit or credit card, or bought at iguazuargentina.com. Tickets go on sale 30 days before the date.
2Second day at half price
If you go back to the park the next day and show your first-day ticket at the ticket office, you pay 50 %. With a day and a half you can see everything without rushing.
3Devil's Throat: closed
The walkway to the Devil's Throat (Garganta del Diablo) has been closed since August 2026 with no reopening date. The Upper and Lower Circuits and the rest of the park are still open; check the park's updates before you go.
4To Brazil, with a physical ID
On the international bus everyone gets off at both immigration checks, so bring your passport or ID card. Tickets for the Brazilian park are bought online, in reais, with a date and time slot.
5Few ATMs
There are few ATMs in town, and inside the National Park there are two areas with ATMs. Arrive with some cash; there are also Western Union agents and exchange offices.
6Always wear repellent
The park recommends putting on repellent before and during your visit, carrying water and wearing comfortable clothes and shoes. Some hostels don't have mosquito nets.
7Pool and air conditioning
From December to February highs are around 31-32 °C with high humidity. Choose a hostel with a pool and ask if the air conditioning works all day: there are complaints about AC that's only switched on at night.
8Eco-tourism tax
Puerto Iguazú charges a municipal eco-tourism tax that accommodation must add to the bill. Factor in that extra when you pay for your hostel.

Weather and seasons in Puerto Iguazú
The National Park is open every day of the year, including holidays and rainy days, although some circuits may close due to weather or maintenance. High season is January, February, the July winter holidays and long weekends: on those dates it's worth reserving your hostel and park ticket in advance. From November to March the falls carry more water; October is the wettest month and August the driest.

Plan the rest of your trip
The quickest way is to fly to IGR airport, with direct flights from Aerolíneas Argentinas and JetSMART from Buenos Aires and Aerolíneas Argentinas from Córdoba and Salta. By bus, Buenos Aires is 17 to 18 hours away, from ≈ US$ 34 in semi-cama to ≈ US$ 107 in cama (fully reclining); Posadas about 5 hours (≈ US$ 31), and Corrientes 9 to 10 h 30 (from ≈ US$ 43). If you're coming from Brazil, Foz do Iguaçu airport is 17 km away, but adds two border checks.
How do I get to Iguazú Falls without paying for a tour?
Take the Río Uruguay bus from the bus station or the Hito Tres Fronteras. It leaves every 30 minutes from 7:00, takes about 20 minutes and costs ≈ US$ 6.50 each way; the last bus back from the park is at 17:00. Tickets are sold at windows 19 and 35 of the bus station or on board, and you don't need a SUBE card.
How much is the entry fee to Iguazú National Park in 2026?
Since 1 June 2026, foreigners pay AR$ 60,000 (≈ US$ 39) and residents of Argentina AR$ 25,000 (≈ US$ 16); residents of Misiones and Argentine students have lower rates. There's no separate Mercosur rate. If you come back the next day with your first-day ticket, the second day costs half.
Is the Devil's Throat open?
No. The walkway to the Devil's Throat (Garganta del Diablo) has been closed since August 2026 with no reopening date. The Upper and Lower Circuits, the Macuco Trail and the rest of the park are still open, so the visit is still well worth it. Check the park's updates before you go in case the status changes.
Can I pay by card at the park?
Yes. The ticket office accepts cash in Argentine pesos and Visa and Mastercard debit and credit cards. You can also buy online, with a date and time. The ticket is only valid for the chosen day, but if you can't go due to force majeure you can use it up to 72 hours later.
How do I cross to the Brazilian side on my own?
Río Uruguay's international bus to Foz do Iguaçu leaves from the bus station; ask for the times at the window. At the border you have to get off at both immigration checks, so bring your passport or physical ID card. In Foz you take city bus 120 «Parque Nacional». Brazilian park tickets are bought online, in reais, with a date and time.
Which area of Puerto Iguazú is best to stay in?
If you arrive by bus or want to head to the Falls early, the most practical is around the bus station: the bus to the park leaves from there. If you want a more social or quieter hostel, the west side, towards the Hito Tres Fronteras, has the best-rated ones, 16 to 31 minutes on foot. Route 12 is for those who prefer jungle and a big pool.
